God Provides the Inspiration and the Creativity
Many artists across multiple disciplines strongly believe in the role God plays in their work. Andre Gide, French author stated "Art is a collaboration between God and the artist, and the less the artist does, the better". Carole King, American singer-songwriter and musician declared "Inspirations come through us, they come from above, from God, we just need to be in tune and receptive". Van Gogh, Dutch painter, stated in letters to his brother Theo that God was working through him to create. And Dutch painter Piet Mondrian famously expressed the sentiment that an artist acts as a channel for higher creativity, stating, "The position of the artist is humble. He is essentially a channel".
I believe that God’s involvement in the creation of artistic endeavors is as much available to artists who are unknown (such as myself) as to those who are famous. As a strong believer in God’s role in my art, I have felt God’s involvement with his infinite creativity and inspiration. If my painting falls short in any way, I judge it to be my lack of technical skills. In the meantime, as I practice my skills, I will continue to commune with God while I paint!
